What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture has been a viable natural health care option for patients to improve their health and overall well-being for thousands of years.
Acupuncture is safe, non-invasive, and painless. This procedure stimulates the natural healing processes of the human body.
Understanding QI and Acupuncture
Qi is energy within the body. As all energy flows, Qi flows throughout the body along meridians, vessels, and nerve pathways. This flow can be interrupted, causing disruptions of energy that is vital to every cell, organ, and muscle in the human body. At the core of this ancient medicine is the philosophy that Qi (pronounced “chee”), or vital energy, flows throughout the body. Qi animates the body and protects it from illness, pain and disease. A person’s health is influenced by the quality, quantity and balance of Qi.
How is QI Disrupted?
Qi disruptions can be compared to a dam which blocks a stream. Just as the water of the stream is backed up, Qi backs up in the body restricting the flow throughout. This disruption is damaging to a person’s body as it stops an important exchange of information between the tissues and cells.
There are other things that can disrupt Qi, such as; trauma, lack of physical activity, improper diet, stress, Physical and emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, and seasonal changes.
If this disruption of Qi remains for an extended period of time it can cause illness, pains, and fatigue, but through acupuncture, the body is able to restore itself back to a healthy state.
What does an Acupuncturist Do?
Our acupuncturists at Sorensen Chiropractic will conduct a comprehensive health history to see if you would benefit from our care. This information will allow us to construct a treatment plan that will benefit each individual patient and help them on the pathway to a healthy life and overall well-being.
When we locate the disruptions of Qi, sterile acupuncture needles are placed into tissue in the corresponding areas. This is relatively painless and completely safe. The needles stimulate areas corresponding to Qi disruption, allowing flow to be restored. When the flow is restored, the body will be more able to heal itself.
